Duty Pals β Privacy Policy
Duty Pals ("the app", "we") is a shift-work calendar app operated by an independent developer. This policy explains what data the app and this website handle, and how.
1. Data stored only on your device
Your shift patterns, calendar, overrides, notes, pay settings, reminders, and app preferences are stored locally on your device in the app's private database. They are not uploaded to our servers unless you use the team or community features described below. Roster photos processed by OCR are analyzed entirely on-device and are never uploaded.
2. Data processed in the cloud (optional features)
If you use team sync or community chat, the app signs you in with an anonymous account (Firebase Authentication) and stores the following in Google Firebase (Firestore) servers:
- An anonymous user identifier (no name, email, or phone number is required)
- Your display name within a team, team schedules you choose to share, and team invite codes
- Messages, mood check-ins, and presence status you post in community lounges
If you never use team or community features, none of this data is created.
3. Advertising
The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising ID) and use them as described in Google's privacy & terms. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. Ads may be removed through in-app reward mechanics where offered.
4. Analytics and diagnostics
The app does not currently include an analytics SDK. We do not collect screen-by-screen usage or retention data. If we add analytics in a future version, we will update this policy and the app's Play Store data safety section before that version ships.
5. Network requests
The app fetches public holiday data from the open Nager.Date API. This request contains only the country code being queried, not personal data.
6. Data sharing and selling
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except the service providers listed above (Google Firebase, Google AdMob) which process data to operate the app's features.
7. Data retention and deletion
- Local data: deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. You can also export or delete data via Settings β Backup.
- Board posts: see section 7b.
- Team / community data: you can leave a team or delete your messages in the app. To request full deletion of cloud data tied to your anonymous ID, contact us at the address below.
7b. The website message board ("Break Room")
The board at dutypals.app/board/ and /ko/board/ is a public message board. It is separate from the app, and using it is entirely optional.
What is stored when you post
- The display name and optional shift/job label you type into the form. Pick anything; a real name is not required and we recommend you do not use one.
- The text of your post or reply.
- An anonymous ID that your browser is issued automatically. It is not linked to an email address, a phone number, an account, or your identity, and it exists so we can apply the one-post-per-30-seconds limit and act on reports.
- The server time of the post.
We do not ask for, and the board does not collect, your email address, phone number, IP-based profile, or any app data.
Anything you post is public. The board can be read by anyone on the internet, including search engines, without signing in. Please do not post information that identifies you or anyone else β full names, employer, unit or station, badge or licence numbers, patient or caller details, or photographs of rosters.
Moderation. Someone from the Duty Pals team reviews new posts every day. We may hide or delete a post that breaks the posted house rules, and we keep a short internal record of what was hidden and why. Hidden posts are not served to visitors. Posts you report are reviewed the same way; a report stores the reported post, your anonymous ID and the reporter's anonymous ID.
Retention and removal. Posts stay until removed by us or on request. To have your post removed, email the address in section 10 with the board, the display name, and roughly when you posted, and we will delete it. Because posting requires no account, we cannot verify authorship β so we honour removal requests on a good-faith basis and may decline a request that would remove someone else's content.
Where it is stored. Board content is held in Google Cloud Firestore (Firebase, project operated by us), the same infrastructure the app's optional cloud features use, and is subject to Google's security and sub-processing terms.
Children. The board is for working adults. Please do not use it if you are under 16.
8. Children
Duty Pals is intended for working adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes and on this page.
